I just came from seeing this movie. Without question one of the WORST movies I've ever seen. Dark and excessive torture scenes destroy this story. The NBC special with Tom Brokaw was tens times better then the crap the audience endured for over two hours. At least 30 people walked out.

I very much enjoyed this movie. It touched one's heart strings. It gave hope even in moments of despair. I loved that you saw real pics of the characters at the end of the movie. I was a little disappointed that prisoners of war seemed mostly clean shaven and had designer haircuts considering the believable realism otherwise. Nicely done Ms. Jolie. The showing I was at garnered a standing ovation from the audience. I have never witnessed that before.

Great movie; nice to see new faces and the fact that it is based on a true story adds to it for me. The violence is huge but after reading the book, the movie is actually less violent so it goes to show how brutal the Japanese were with their prisoners of war. A must-see for history lover and like my friend who came with me said "I wish they would have taught us what war is like when I was in school".

Acting was great. Story focus was not. Lost at sea and torture in Japanese camp was only part of this story but in this movie--it was the whole story. Read the book which was fabulous.

I rarely review. This was a must. This story is the bridging of 2 stores, the strength and achievement of a goal hard won and the breaking of a spirit and the strength to survive. It was an amazing experience. Beautifully filmed, smart, intelligent and moving. Viewing a masterpiece is rare, this was a gift. Showing the inner strength of each of us.
